I’ve been having a hard time lately trying to define what exactly Wellness actually is and how it differs from health/ diet/ exercise blogs. I need an ‘elevator pitch’… So I turned to ‘He who knows all’ (Wikpedia) for some help. Here Wellness is defined as the:
‘Healthy balance of the mind, body and spirit that results in an overall feeling of well-being’.
Another definition I like, and think hits the nail on the head, is by the National Wellness Institute:
‘Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a more successful existence’.
My theory is Wellness is a movement, a progression towards full body health and happiness. It’s the opening of the mind to alternative ways of thinking, eating, playing and acting which questions ‘the norm’ and aids the individual to reach their full potential.
Wellness is for anyone, but it’s maybe most relevant to those who’ve had a ‘wakeup call’ recently and have started revaluating their lives and would like to live a bit more fuller. It’s for people that are interested in taking responsibility for their physical wellbeing, mental health, energy levels, mental ability and the world around them.
Wellness is a choice, a way of life, and one I’m enjoying being a part of!
